- Studied classical and jazz clarinet styles privately with Paul Guma, the 1st clarinet of the New Orleans Symphony.

- Began playing professionally in 1968.
- Played with Rhythm and Blues bands 1968 through 1970.
- Played with the Storyville Jazz Band in 1971.
- Sideman and subsequently leader of the Dukes of Dixieland.
- Eight years as a freelance musician on the Delta Queen Steamboat.
- Three years playing with legendary trumpeter Al Hirt.
- Played in the warm up band at Radio City Music Hall for Frank Sinatra.
- Entertainment Director for New Orleans Paddlewheels, Creole Queen & Cajun Queen riverboats.
- Clarinet/Tenor and Soprano Saxophone player for "A Recherche de Josephine," directed by Jerome Savary at the Opéra Comique. Otis has toured France, Spain, Germany, and Austria with the show.
